Abstract Scope |
The previous blade submitted for the TMS competition was a Khopesh ancient Egyptian inspired blade. The history of the blade is prevalent from the bronze age to the iron age and is heavily depicted throughout art and imagery left behind. The blade was chosen by the team because of its interesting features and history. The material of the blade was hot chiseled off a railroad spike. X-ray Fluorescence analysis was performed on the material with results revealing the material to be a 1050 plain carbon steel. The blade was wholly hand forged using a coal forge first, then a gas forge. A belt sander was utilized to rough finish the blade. And finally, the blade was heat treated and water quenched. For the final touches brass pins and oak were used for the handle. |
