Presentation Title Remanufacturing and Repair of Superalloys: A Focus on Alloy 718

Abstract Scope This contribution addresses the remanufacturing and repair of superalloys, specifically Alloy 718, using laser-directed energy deposition (DED) processing. Alloy 718 is essential in aerospace, petrochemical, and power generation industries for its high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance. Findings from recent research on DED and heat treatments for Alloy 718 are presented, highlighting the impact of varying DED process parameters on microstructure and phase precipitation. Key aspects include the role of heat treatment in enhancing material properties and the precipitation behavior of the delta phase (δ-Ni3Nb). High-energy input during DED results in distinct microstructural features, with heat treatments at 1010°C and 1050°C promoting grain growth and delta-phase precipitation. Delta processing treatments (DPT) at 850°C, 900°C, and 950°C for 1 to 48 hours significantly affect delta phase precipitate morphology and distribution. These findings offer insights into optimizing process parameters and heat treatment protocols for improved lifecycle management and performance of critical superalloy components.
