Abstract Scope |
Many conventional manufacturing materials adapted for AM exhibit widely different microstructures and properties due to the rapid solidification and melting of the AM process, and often lead to the formation of defects upon printing.
In developing processing specifications for AM alloys, DOE approaches can be time, cost and labor intensive, and the existing materials may still not yield the desired properties and performance.
As a result, novel alloys are being developed that capitalize on the unique features of the AM process. ICMD® is a software platform that utilizes physics-based models, materials databases, and model workflows to optimize and design both materials and processes.
This presentation will focus on the application of ICMD® to assess hot cracking susceptibility and create printability maps for laser powder bed fusion. It will include examples of optimizing legacy alloys to improve printability, generating printability maps, and optimizing post-build heat treatments. |
