| Abstract Scope |
This presentation aims to demonstrate the efficient use of ICME technologies developed for multi-material joining, which can be applied to solve a variety of problems faced in industry today, or to identify innovative materials solutions, i.e., functional gradient materials. AM of dissimilar materials is increasingly required to meet rising performance and sustainability requirements in critical components. Yet, challenges including material incompatibility, detrimental phase formation and thermal stresses, often limit adoption and require extensive trial-and-error to resolve. To address these challenges and accelerate development, Thermo-Calc Solutions applies state-of-the-art predictive models, CALPHAD databases, and advanced computational tools to capture key process-structure-property relationships. Critical cracking mechanisms are identified and mitigated by tailoring joint chemistries or AM process conditions, reducing lead times and costs for multi-materials development. This presentation will provide technical examples from ongoing work at Thermo-Calc Solutions, demonstrating how the methodology can reduce trial-and-error and enable innovate solutions in various industry sectors. |
