| Abstract Scope |
Tungsten and its alloys are used in Fusion reactors and other nuclear systems that operate under extreme conditions. This study investigates the fabrication of Y2 O3 -dispersed W components via Electron Beam
powder Bed Fusion (E-PBF), aiming to overcome the limitations of conventional processing techniques. Highly spherical tungsten powder is coated with Yttria nanoparticles via acoustic mixing, then used to produce dense, crack-free structures via E-PBF under vacuum conditions. The microstructure, density, and mechanical properties of the as-built samples would be characterized using SEM, EDS, XRD, EBSD, nanoindentation, and tensile testing. Uniform dispersion of Y2 O3 particles within the tungsten matrix and refined grain structures contribute to improved hardness and potential irradiation tolerance. The findings should demonstrate the feasibility of E-PBF in fabricating complex and high-performance tungsten-based components for fusion reactors and other nuclear systems, offering a novel route for advanced material development in extreme environments. |
