Presentation Title Size Effect at High Temperature in Additive Metals

Abstract Scope Additively manufactured metals have received widespread adoption in the industry for complex designs in applications requiring high-temperature performance. Transitions from thick to thin wall structures during the build process often lead to variations in thermal gradients which influence the intrinsic properties of the build such as porosity and microstructure. To expand the current state of the size effect in AM thin wall structures herein we present a detailed analysis of the size effect characteristics and their connection to the underlying deformation mechanisms. We also discuss the role of extrinsic parameters (high temperatures) on the size effect. To make our investigation applicable we present our findings for four classes of sought after alloy systems including Ti-6Al-4V titanium, Haynes 282 and 214 nickel alloys.
