Corncob is a byproduct of the corn. This residue is normally discarded, because, in the regions where corn is produced, it is not used. Base on the above, added to the large amount of this waste that is generated, makes it an interesting product to be used. In Colombia, these wastes can be exploited as a very useful energy source with applications where fuels such as coal can be replaced by making briquettes from this waste. Corncob briquets can be used as a replace for conventional sources of solid fuel for zone with poor socioeconomic development and lack of resources. In this research the behavior as energy source will be analyzed using thermomechanical characterization to offer a first energetic solution to certain populations in Colombia.
