Abstract Scope Two-dimensional (2D) nanoribbons (2D-NRs) exhibit emergent quantum phenomena and additional degrees of freedom in tunability that are unique from their 2D monolayer counterparts due to lateral confinement and engineerable edge states. The thickness, width, edge chirality, and roughness of 2D-NRs dictate their intrinsic multi-physical properties. Despite previous efforts to scalably synthesize 2D-NRs via a multitude of bottom-up and top-down approaches, they have thus far all lacked the uniformity and scalability required for future application needs in high density integrated circuits and quantum computing and sensing devices. We present a novel, purely mechanical method for the scalable assembly of 2D NRs under ambient conditions. The resulting one-dimensional (1D), linear 2D-NR structures exhibit highly uniform width, spacing, alignment, and ångström-precise edge chirality. This generalizable capability to create arbitrary 2D-NRs from a variety of 2D crystals open new avenues for continued dimensional scaling in future semiconductor and quantum devices manufacturing.
