||Numerical Investigation of Flow Field Effect on Ledge Shape in Aluminum Reduction Cell by Coupled Thermo-flow Model

A coupled thermo-flow model was developed to calculate the three-dimensional ledge in a 400_kA aluminum reduction cell. Based on this model, a reverse flow experiment was designed to quantitatively analyze the effect of electromagnetic force and flow pattern. The electromagnetic force is the determining factor in flow field distribution with full cell influence. The absolute value of the electromagnetic force has an impact on heat transfer, while has little effect on ledge shape. The ledge shape is more closely related to vortex flow pattern, which has a strong effect in the intersection region.
