Abstract Scope |
The modern tristructural Isotropic (TRISO) coated particle fuel architecture and integral fuel forms were developed for high temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGRs). The successful reinvestment in TRISO fuel technology in the US through the DOE Advanced Gas Reactor Fuel Development and Qualification (AGR) Program has resulted in the pursuit of numerous reactor concepts leveraging TRISO fuel in the US, many of which deviate from HTGR operational space. A discussion of current and future research and development areas for TRISO fuel will be discussed such as challenges associated with operating TRISO fuel outside of the typical HTGR operating envelope and changes to the particle and fuel form architecture will be presented. |
