Abstract Scope It has been shown experimentally in commercial Ni-based superalloys, that the precipitation of fine γ’ precipitates within the γ channels known as tertiary precipitates, during non-isothermal loading has a significant, yet temporary strengthening effect on the mechanical behavior of single crystal superalloys, ending with either the dissolution or absorption of these fine precipitates. In this work, we attempt to quantify and understand this phenomenon further using phase field simulations and predict the formation of these precipitates under various thermomechanical loading conditions.
