Abstract Scope Recent breakthroughs from NASAs Microwave Structure Construction Capability (MSCC) team indicate that microwaves can be used to build vertical structures. The technology is being developed as part of NASA's Moon to Mars Planetary Autonomous Construction Technology (MMPACT). New equipment and process development has enabled controlled area microwave sintering. The depth of sintering is controlled by microwave energy input. A second layer of powder was sintered/vitrified to join to the base layer. A concept design is under development for a continuous microwave process for additively manufacturing 3D structures using lunar or Martian regolith simulant.
