Abstract Scope |
The fatigue lives of 42CrMo4, IN718 and TiAl 48-2-2 were determined at elevated temperatures under uniaxial symmetric tension/compression loading (R = -1) in the very-high cycle fatigue regime using the ultrasonic fatigue testing technique. The steel 42CrMo4 was manufactured conventionally and investigated in cast and wrought condition at room temperature, 473 K and 773 K. The additively manufactured high-temperature alloys IN718 and TiAl 48-2-2 were tested at a temperature of 873 K and 973 K, respectively. The fatigue mechanisms are discussed based on the results of the fatigue tests, the microstructural investigations, and the fractographic analyses. Whereas fatigue tests at 773 K on conventionally manufactured steel 42CrMo4, yielded a change in the fatigue mechanism and a significantly lower fatigue strength compared to room temperature.
