Abstract Scope |
Al-Cu-Ni-Mn and Al-Cu-Ni-Mn-Si high entropy alloys have been developed in equiatomic proportions. Each alloy was subjected to elevated temperature oxidation in air for a duration of 24, 48, and then 72 hours separately in a range of temperature from 600oC – 1000oC. As received microstructural and oxidation characterization has been performed utilizing a scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Three phases have been identified within the as received microstructure of each alloy. The first two phases are rich in Ni and Mn. The third phase in each alloy differs by one element, the quaternary alloy has a phase rich in Al-Cu-Ni and the quinary alloy is rich in Al-Cu-Mn. Oxides and intermetallics have been recognized and the bulk microstructures have been analyzed for phase transformations post oxidation. |
