Presentation Title Structure and Properties Evolution in Rapidly Annealed Fe73.5Ni10B14Cu0.7 Amorphous Material

Abstract Scope The Fe73.5Ni10B14Cu0.7 (at. %) metallic glass ribbons were isothermally annealed for 1 to 60 seconds in 500°C. Heat treatment was done between two hot copper blocks. So called rapid annealing allowed to heat up the ribbon to the final temperature within fraction of the second. The structure was investigated with DSC, XRD, TEM, FlashDSC, and Mössbauer spectroscopy. In addition, DC hysteresis loops were recorded (Hmax = 660A/m and 5kA/m). All data’s were correlated, and compared to commercially available soft magnetic nanocrystalline magnetic materials. The FlashDSC estimated the heating speed to obtain optimal nanocrystalline structure at 6000 K/min. The Mössbauer results allowed us to study annealing time-dependent local atomic ordering in the amorphous Fe-Ni-B matrix, which starts at surface regions already at annealing time exceeding 5 s and leads to the formation of Fe(Ni)2B phase for longer time applied. The TEM results are in line with Mössbauer results.
