||High Temperature Fatigue Properties of Selective Laser Melted Inconel 718

Inconel 718 (IN718) is a commercial nickel – iron super-alloy known for its remarkable high temperature strength and fatigue performance. Although the microstructure and mechanical properties of SLM IN718 at room temperature has been studied comprehensively, there is a need to evaluate the effect of high temperature on the microstructure and properties. In the present work, high cycle fatigue properties of as-fabricated and heat-treated SLM IN718 has been investigated at various temperatures. Role of porosity, micro-meso structure, Laves Phases and carbide inclusions on the crack initiation and propagation was examined to explain the observed fatigue properties at various testing temperature. Further post-processing treatment like HIPing and shot peening were considered to improve the defect tolerance of SLM IN718.
