Presentation Title Polar Nanostructure in Composition Modulated Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 Superlattice

Abstract Scope Artificial superlattice has been studied to design new-type of structure and/or function that cannot be expected in a ferroelectric bulk crystal. In this study, we have characterized composition-modulated Pb(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O3/Pb(Zr0.30Ti0.70)O3 superlattice using atomic-scale scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). It was clarified that lattice parameters were a = 0.4065 nm, c = 0.4149 nm, and β = 90.1° in the Pb(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O3 layer. Whereas, they were a = 0.4056 nm, c = 0.3964 nm, β = 90.1° in the Pb(Zr0.30Ti0.70)O3 layer. These were unexpected results, because Pb(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O3 bulk crystal should possess rhombohedral unit cell, and c axis is longer than a axis in Pb(Zr0.30Ti0.70)O3 bulk crystal. In addition, observation of polarization direction indicated that polar nanostructure would form in the superlattice. This polarization behavior may resemble that in relaxor ferroelectrics.
