Meeting MS&T26: Materials Science & Technology
Symposium Glass and Optical Materials: Challenges and Applications
Sponsorship ACerS Glass & Optical Materials Division
Organizer(s) Collin Wilkinson, Alfred University
Jose Marcial, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
Jessica Rimsza, Sandia National Laboratories
Scope This symposium provides a forum to discuss recent progress and challenges in the science and technology of glasses and optical materials. This includes fundamental and applied glass science, novel glass synthesis and characterization methods, structure-processing-property relations of optical materials, and new applications of glass and glass-ceramic materials. Contributions from academia, national laboratories, and industries addressing recent advances and new applications are welcome. This symposium also includes the ACerS GOMD Alfred R. Cooper Award session.

Proposed topics include (but are not limited to):
- Structural Characterizations of Glasses and Melts
- Glass-Forming Ability, Glass Crystallization, and Structural Relaxation
- Atomistic Computer Simulations of Glass Structures, Properties, and Processing
- Data-based Modeling and Machine Learning for Glass Science
- Mechanics and Strengthening Mechanism of Glasses and Glass-ceramics
- Glasses Under Extreme Conditions
- Novel Formulations and Synthetic Routes for the Formation of Glasses, Amorphous Materials, and Glass-ceramics
- Glass-Based Biomaterials
- Glass–Environment Interactions and Glass Surfaces/Interface/Coatings
- Nuclear Waste Vitrification
- Laser Interactions with Glasses
- Charge and Energy Transport in Glasses and Glass-ceramics
- Rare-earth and Transition Metal-doped Glasses, and their Photonic Applications
- Additive Manufacturing of Glass
- Industrial Glass Processing, Melting, Fining, Heat-treating, and Engineering
