Scope |
This symposium explores the current state of intersection between Additive Manufacturing (AM) and traditional manufacturing. Now an established set of manufacturing methods in its own right, the full potential of Additive Manufacturing will only be realized through integration with other processes. AM can also create new applications and use cases for older methods, breathing new life into established industries. Presented research can be focused on any aspect of synergy between Additive Manufacturing and traditional methods. Suitable topics for this symposium include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Multiprocess manufacturing of metal, polymers, ceramic and composite materials that utilize AM.
2. Use of AM to enhance traditional rolling, extrusion, forging, pressing, powder metallurgy, casting, slipcasting and others
3. Use of AM to create novel uses for traditional methods
4. AM of tooling, molding, preforms and dies
5. Strategies to achieving target geometry and surface finish on complex parts
6. Materials issues related to multistep AM manufacturing
7. Manufacturing step count reduction
8. Material usage, waste reduction and stock material management |
