Scope This symposium is by invitation only.

"This symposium will focus on adaptive biomaterials and biointegrated devices for minimally invasive interventions. Its central theme is how materials and devices function actively during delivery and deployment through deformation, swelling, adhesion, assembly, transport, and interfacial response, rather than serving only as passive implants or carriers. Particular emphasis will be placed on cardiovascular, neurovascular, and endovascular settings, where flow, confinement, catheter based delivery, imageability, tissue contact, and healing response directly govern performance.

The novelty of this topic within TMS is its focus on intervention enabling materials and devices as a distinct frontier, linking biomaterials with mechanics, interfaces, transport, and translational deployment under real procedural constraints. The session will bring together researchers working on embolic agents, injectable and in situ forming systems, adaptive soft materials, biointerfaces, biomaterial mechanics, and device enabled therapeutic platforms. At its core, this is a materials science problem defined by structure, processing, viscoelasticity, transport, interfaces, and performance under demanding use conditions. The symposium would create a focused venue for a rapidly growing area not yet fully established in the TMS landscape and strengthen TMS leadership in adaptive materials and devices for minimally invasive medicine.
