About this Symposium

Meeting 2024 TMS Annual Meeting & Exhibition
Symposium OVERLAP IDENTIFIED: Local Ordering in Substitutional Alloys and Its Effect on Properties
Sponsorship TMS Materials Processing and Manufacturing Division
TMS: Phase Transformations Committee
Organizer(s) Sriswaroop Dasari, University of Texas at El Paso
Srinivasan Srivilliputhur, University of North Texas
Rajarshi Banerjee, University of North Texas
Scope Recent developments in high entropy alloys (HEAs) or concentrated multi-component alloys has led to a renewed interest in understanding the nature of local ordering in substitutional alloys. The fundamentals of short and long-range ordering theories and their impact on the properties are being debated. This symposium provides the opportunity to get different perspectives on the nature of local ordering within nominally random solid solutions. The topics of interest include (1) early stages of ordering eventually leading to precipitation of long-range ordered phases such as L12 in FCC, and B2 in BCC (2) experimental methods to identify short-range ordering such as X-ray scattering and electron diffraction (3) computational modeling of local ordering and (4) the effect of ordering on physical and/or mechanical properties
