| Abstract Scope |
This study investigates the development of Sc- and Zr-modified Al-Mg (5754) alloys produced via industrial-scale twin-roll casting (TRC). Three alloy variants were evaluated: base 5754, 5754+0.06Sc+0.06Zr, and 5754+0.06Sc+0.10Zr (wt.%). As-cast microstructures revealed that Sc/Zr additions promoted grain coarsening. In the as-cast state, the 0.06Sc-0.06Zr alloy exhibited an 8% increase in yield strength compared to the base alloy, whereas further Zr addition (0.10%) yielded no additional strengthening. This strength differential diminished after cold rolling to an equivalent strain of 2.07. However, annealing trials demonstrated that Sc and Zr additions significantly elevated the recrystallization temperature of the highly deformed sheets, with the higher Zr content (0.10%) providing the most pronounced retardation effect. |
