| Abstract Scope |
The demand for lightweight structural materials capable of retaining mechanical performance at elevated temperatures has accelerated the development of high-temperature aluminum alloys containing thermally stable intermetallic phases. Cold spray has emerged as a promising solid-state manufacturing technology for processing these alloys while avoiding melting-related defects, undesirable phase transformations (solid-liquid), and residual tensile stresses associated with conventional fusion-based methods. By preserving the feedstock microstructure and enabling severe plastic deformation during deposition, cold spray offers unique opportunities for fabricating dense structural components and repairing critical components and producing functionally graded materials with enhanced thermal stability. However, processing high-temperature aluminum alloys presents significant challenges arising from their increased strength, reduced deformability and oxide-layer effects. This work discusses recent efforts in cold spray deposition of high-temperature aluminum alloys, emphasizing the addition of secondary particles for better deposition and post-deposition heat treatment and its challenges, finally the room and elevated-temperature mechanical performance will be discussed. |
