Abstract Scope |
With increasing amount of high silica bauxites used as Bayer refinery feed, the re-precipitation of dissolved silica with traditional technology as desilication product (commonly known DSP) would not only consume more caustic and alumina but also cause the slow release of soda from red mud residues in storage. Furthermore, incomplete desilication of pregnant Bayer liquor also results in silicate scaling on equipment and contamination for product alumina in following process after desilication stage. Optimization of silicate behaviour in Bayer process is critical demanded. Understanding the chemistry of leaching and precipitation of silicate in Bayer process would contribute to this issue. This review summary the research results on chemistry of silicate, especially on thermodynamics and kinetics in process. |
