Power electronics has been a key technology for high-efficiency power conversion and control, supporting our modern society. Soft magnetic passive devices, such as transformers and inductors, have been crucial elements in power electronics and have become increasingly important in recent years. In particular, reducing iron loss in the high-frequency region is a very important issue. Recently, we have investigated iron loss mechanisms in various soft magnetic materials and developed methods to reduce iron loss in the high-frequency range. Iron loss analysis based on the magnetization process well reproduces the experimental iron loss behaviors of various soft magnetic materials. The dominant iron loss component changes from irreversible magnetization process to reversible one as frequency increases. We have found that controlling the magnetic domain structure under some specific heat treatments effectively reduces the irreversible iron loss component. |
