| Abstract Scope |
Today’s bauxite and alumina markets have been reshaped by a decade of disruption, driven largely by China’s surging demand for imported bauxite. Rapid growth in primary aluminium demand, coupled with declining domestic reserves, sent Chinese refiners overseas in search of scale, ultimately landing in Guinea, home to the world’s largest high-grade bauxite reserves.
With export capacity now established, Guinea is enforcing commitments to build domestic alumina refineries, while Chinese players simultaneously expand refining and smelting capacity in Indonesia. This Keynote considers the challenges confronting global bauxite and alumina markets as they enter a new production era. |
