Abstract Scope |
This presentation highlights recent advancements achieved through the development of Electric Nano Pulsing (ENP) technology - a novel approach characterized by ultra-high current densities (~10¹¹ A/m²) and ultra-short pulse durations (<1 μs). When integrated with the spark plasma sintering process, ENP enables ultra-rapid neck formation and densification of 316L stainless steel within ultra-short time durations, driven by localized heating and intense electromigration, an electric-field-induced mass transport mechanism. We also introduce a new ENP-based flash sintering process, in which ENP pulses are used to initiate and sustain densification of zirconia ceramics. This method leverages a surface thin coating as a thermal initiator, offering precise, ultra-fast thermal control. These innovations not only enhance the speed and efficiency of sintering but also open new pathways for fundamental studies into sintering mechanisms. Ultimately, this work provides a platform for next-generation sintering technologies with unprecedented microstructure control. |
