Nano-conical structure is quasi-one-dimensional structure, which should also show such novel physical properties as these of other low-dimensional structures. In this work, we have fabricated diamond nanocone arrays with high morphological uniformity, controlling cone height, cone angle, cone density and cone orientation, by using the maskless plasma etching technique. In ambient air, the conductivity of as-grown p-type diamond nanocone arrays with H-terminated surfaces, while with adsorption of NH3 (or NO2) molecules, can decrease (or increase) dramatically at room temperature. The extremely sensitivity at room temperature is most likely to be due to the ultrahigh surface-to-volume ratios of the nanocone structures, which is very beneficial to the adsorption of gas molecules on the surface. |
