| Abstract Scope |
Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) led an international round robin study to evaluate impurity measurements in FLiBe salt using Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). Although ICP-MS is widely used for elemental analysis, differences in sample digestion and analytical procedures can produce inconsistent results for fluoride salt matrices. Six laboratories from academia and industry analyzed the samples from the same batch of FLiBe salt prepared by the CFS molten salt laboratory. This presentation compares the sample digestion methods, ICP-MS analytical parameters, and impurity concentrations reported by the participating laboratories. The sources of interlaboratory variability are discussed, and recommended analytical practices are proposed to improve the accuracy, consistency, and reproducibility of ICP-MS impurity measurements for FLiBe salt quality control. |
