| Abstract Scope |
Nordic Salt Cycle has developed a molten salt-based process for selective recovery of critical metals from complex secondary and primary resources. This presentation will report early pilot-scale results from processing LIB black mass, tracking scale-up from gram to kilogram and pilot. The process uses a molten ionic medium to selectively reduce Ni and Co to a metallic intermediate, while retaining Li, Mn, Fe, Al, C and fluorine in separable oxidised or salt-soluble forms. Pilot data will be discussed in terms of feedstock tolerance, metal recovery, product purity, lithium recovery, impurity rejection, and operational challenges encountered during scale-up. Although the current process is not electrolytic, electrochemical concepts are central to understanding our process chemistry. Electrochemistry is also core in the design of future processes, targeting other feedstocks such as magnets, electronic waste and ores; how we use this will be presented, as well as early data on future process feeds. |
