Abstract Scope |
Thermal history of interfaces within Material Extrusion (MEX) AM parts are critical for determining part mechanical properties. By using a combination of infrared thermography and a thermal capacitance driven heuristic model, interface thermal history of thermoplastic polymer MEX parts can be estimated. Initial data is collected via embedding thermocouples between layers of printed parts and through infrared thermographic imaging of the exterior of the part. A heuristic model is derived from the initial data set and supplemented with additional infrared thermography data to calculate part thermal history. Experimental validation of the model across five different part geometries in both enclosed and open-air build environments is presented. |
