| Abstract Scope |
Increasing use of post-consumer scrap (PCS) in aluminum alloys amplifies variability in trace and tramp elements, placing new demands on analytical accuracy and calibration. This work develops prototype certified reference materials (CRMs) representative of modern recycled alloys and suitable for spectrometric applications. CRMs were produced from extruded wrought alloys (2xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx series) using industrially scalable processing routes. Chemical characterization by spark-OES was validated with independent methods, including ICP-OES. Homogeneity and uncertainty were evaluated through repeated measurements within and between samples, demonstrating that extruded materials provide sufficient chemical and microstructural uniformity for CRM applications. Certification strategies based on multi-method analysis and ISO Guide 35 principles ensure traceability and reliable uncertainty estimation. The proposed approach enables conversion of semi-finished aluminum products into high-value CRMs, supporting next-generation calibration strategies for PCS-rich alloys and strengthening analytical infrastructure for circular aluminum production. |
