| Abstract Scope |
Loss of Ni percolation in Ni/YSZ fuel electrodes is a well-known mechanism of performance loss in solid oxide cells used in fuel cell and electrolyzer modes. The effect of infiltration of mixed ionic and electronic conducting (MIEC) materials such as gadolinia doped ceria (GDC) on the microstructural and performance stability has been studied. Two methods of GDC deposition have been explored; liquid phase infiltration based on nitrate solutions, and atomic layer deposition (ALD). The morphology of the infiltrated GDC before and after testing, as well as the electrochemical performance and the stability of the percolated Ni in the fuel electrode in the uninfiltrated, and in the liquid phase and ALD infiltrated samples, will be discussed. |
