| Abstract Scope |
ABS: ArcelorMittal Global R&D East Chicago Center has recently acquired the High Temperature Tensile and Compression Observation System (HTTCOS) for the CSLM. This presentation will summarize some initial attempts of utilizing the system for various applications focusing on steel continuous casting and downstream process research as well as high/room temperature property testing of Additive Manufactured steel parts. For continuous casting research, hot ductility testing was applied under the condition with thermal cycling to simulate slab surface temperature variation with spray cooling and high temperature fatigue to simulate the strand surface in bulging-compression cycling condition. In the meantime, 3rd Gen AHSS and high S free cutting steels were focused on to understand the hot ductility problems. Downstream processing was studied for various steel grades and processes, including hot stamping deformation process and spring-back problem due to phase transition during deformation while cooling. |
