Abstract Scope |
We report on the synthesis of Tin+1SnCn (MAX phases) by hot isostatic pressing starting with sub-stoechiometric titanium carbide, niobium and aluminum powders. In addition to a few TiC impurity, new 312 and 211 MAX phases, Ti2NbAlC2 and TiNbAlC are formed. The influence of the synthesis temperature is discussed as phases are only formed at high temperature whereas TiAl3 impurities are present at quite low temperature. Its lattice parameters and Nb,Ti contents, deduced from Rietveld analysis of x-ray diffraction patterns, are determined. |
