| Abstract Scope |
High-precision 3D printing and solidification involve complex chemical and structural transformations across multiple length and time scales. Understanding these processes requires characterization tools capable of resolving morphology, composition, and chemical state in three dimensions under realistic conditions. This presentation highlights advanced chemical imaging capabilities at the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II), focusing on the Full-field X-ray Imaging (FXI) beamline. FXI combines nanoscale 3D tomography with full-field X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) imaging, enabling simultaneous visualization of microstructural evolution and chemical-state distributions with tens-of-nanometer spatial resolution and millisecond-to-second temporal resolution. In situ/operando sample environments, including a heating/cooling stage with tunable temperature gradients and controlled gas-flow cells, support studies under realistic thermal and reaction conditions. Examples from thermal post-processing of submicron- to micron-scale 3D-printed materials and solidification phenomena demonstrate how operando chemical imaging reveals process–structure–property relationships inaccessible to conventional techniques. |
