Abstract Scope |
We will introduce a new relaxation model to understand transient densification of ZnO during the Cold Sintering Process under isothermal conditions. This framework provides a comprehensive methodology which permits the energetics to be determined, disentangles concurrent densification mechanisms, and accurately predicts the strain and strain rates of the material as it undergoes densification at different pressures and temperatures. Through a modified Kingery model, we are able to demonstrate that the process is consistent with a dissolution mechanism. Through a Fourier transform, the densification is represented in the frequency domain.
We will show some of the application areas we are applying the cold sintering process to. This includes Spinel structured functional materials such as ferrites and NTC thermistors, which are demonstrated by cold sintering with molten salt chemistries. Varistor materials and devices that are developed with unique high voltage characteristics and low leakage currents from compositionally designed doped ZnO. |
