Presentation Title Microstructural Refinement of a HSLA Low-Nb Linepipe Steel Using Intensive Recrystallization-Controlled Rolling

Abstract Scope The objective of this work was to compare and evaluate the effect of intensive recrystallization-controlled rolling (IRCR) versus the conventional controlled rolling (CCR) process on the microstructural and precipitation behavior of HSLA with Low-Nb and High-Nb steels. This study included classical austenite grain coarsening and the dissolution of precipitates. Simulation of multi-pass hot deformation using hot compression, torsion deformation and laboratory hot rolling experiments were conducted. The temperature of non-recrystallization, austenite conditioning and precipitation behavior were the central focus of this work. The characterization of roughing simulation specimens showed the well-known grain refinement behavior. As expected, IRCR specimens, which sustained 85% reduction during roughing in plane-strain hot deformation, refined their structure more than CCR specimens, with 75% reduction. The results of this study will be presented and discussed.
