Abstract Scope |
The present work studies the effect of deformation conditions and heat treatment on the microstructure, mechanical and corrosion properties of extruded profiles of alloy 5081. After heat treatment, the yield strength of the extruded profiles was at the level of 245 MPa, which is approximately 1.5 times higher than typical values for alloys of the 5083_O type and is approximately at the level of some alloys 2xxx series after solution treatment and natural aging (T4 type condition). Analysis of the corrosion resistance of alloy 5081 (according to the ASTM G66) showed that the use of an annealed condition is more preferable, since the corrosion rate in this case was reduced by more than 2 times. The results obtained show that alloying with scandium not only significantly increases the strength properties, but also makes it possible to use heat treatment to improve corrosion resistance in a wide temperature range of processing. |
