| Abstract Scope |
The inverse effect of magnetostriction (inverse magnetostrictive effect) has attracted considerable attention for applications in vibration energy harvesting, which can generate electric power from ambient vibration. We demonstrated that Fe-Ga alloys, which exhibit superior magnetostrictive and mechanical properties, are promising inverse magnetostrictive materials for such applications. Specifically, we showed that vibration energy harvesting devices using Fe-Ga alloy single crystals exhibit excellent power generation properties due to the large inverse magnetostrictive effect. By magneto-optic Kerr effect microscopy, the characteristic modulation of the magnetic domain structure of the single crystal was observed under applied magnetic fields and stresses. These results reveal the mechanism underlying the large inverse magnetostrictive effect, which is responsible for the excellent power generation properties. Additionally, we found that Fe-Co-V alloys and Fe-Si alloys can also be utilized as inverse magnetostrictive materials under certain conditions. |
