| Abstract Scope |
Innovative materials and processes are required to manage halide and salt wastes from chemical processing of used fuels and molten salt reactors with complex waste-streams ranging from halides, alkalis, alkaline earths, lanthanide and actinides. The metal halide perovskite (MHP) structure holds immense potential as promising wasteforms for immobilization of salt waste with very high waste loading unlike borosilicate glass. In the present work, we have developed a low-temperature synthesis using an innovative wet chemistry process to optimize yield of MHP synthesis. Systematic experiments were performed to immobilize NaF, KF, and CsF, their mixture into A+2/3/4B4/3/2+F6, where A can be Na, K, Cs and B is a multivalent metallic ion (Sn, Si, Fe, etc) at room temperature using an organic solvent and DI water. The obtained results imply that the simple and low temperature wet chemistry process is cost-effective for synthesizing MHPs as potential wasteforms for effective management of salt waste. |
