This research examines the high-temperature tensile, creep, fatigue, and creep-fatigue behavior of diffusion-bonded 316H SS and Alloy 617 for compact heat exchanger applications. To assess deformation behavior, damage accumulation, and failure mechanisms under cyclic and varying loading conditions, mechanical testing is conducted in a temperature range from 600°C to 760°C. While creep tests provided time-dependent deformation and rupture behavior, fatigue tests evaluated cyclic response. The relationship between cyclic loading and hold time effects, such as stress relaxation and damage accumulation in the bulk and near the bond line, is assessed by creep-fatigue testing. Grain structure, grain growth, crystallographic orientation, and local misorientation microstructures are characterized by EBSD before and after testing. TEM is employed to investigate dislocation structures and precipitate evolution across the bond line and bulk regions. This effort supports ASME Code Case development for compact heat exchangers in elevated-temperature advanced nuclear systems. |
