Abstract Scope |
In MP35N alloy ultra-high strength without compromise in ductility can be achieved on deformation followed by appropriate heat treatments. Depending on the amount of prior deformation the strengthening can be due to stacking faults, nano-twins, martensite phase formation etc. Since it is known that ultra-high strength alloys have severe hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility, it is significant to understand the hydrogen embrittlement phenomenon of MP35N alloy with various deformation and heat-treatment history. Each of the strengthening effects are delineated and hydrogen interaction is investigated with each of these effects. In extension to this the possible solute interactions with the defects and their consequences on the hydrogen embrittlement behaviour is examined in detail. |
