Abstract Scope |
While the understanding of grain structure formation during solidification has made substantial progresses over the past decades, thanks to modelling tools such as Phase Field or Cellular Automata, the origins of misorientations and subgrains formation within single dendritic grains are still unclear. Several responsible mechanisms have been invoked for specific situations: solute gradients during directional solidification, thermomechanical stresses during cooling, surface tension combined with solidification shrinkage during solidification of thin coatings, and systematic misorientations of twinned dendrites associated with icosahedral motives attachment. The present contribution will make a brief overview of these mechanisms. |
