| Abstract Scope |
Electronic waste (e-waste) recycling presents pyrometallurgical challenges due to its heterogeneous composition, which includes metals, plastics, glass, and hazardous substances. Rising global demand for raw materials and increasingly stringent environmental regulations necessitate efficient recycling processes. This paper details the design and operational strategy of the off-gas processing system at a new copper smelting facility—Aurubis Richmond—where e-waste is the primary feed material. The system is engineered to handle high organic and halogenated loads, ensuring effective pollutant capture while recovering valuable metals such as copper. The paper outlines the main components, key features, and operating strategy of the off-gas treatment process, emphasizing its role in minimizing environmental impact and supporting circular economy principles through resource recovery. |
