| Abstract Scope |
This study investigates the characterization of carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide (PAHT-CF) composites manufactured by fused filament fabrication (FFF) for potential application in military components. The influence of printing parameters on porosity and impact performance was evaluated. Internal defects were quantified using the Archimedes method and high-resolution X-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), allowing both the measurement and three-dimensional visualization of pore distribution. Mechanical performance was assessed through Izod impact testing to determine the effect of processing-induced porosity on impact resistance. The results showed that printing parameters significantly affected porosity levels, which directly influenced the impact behavior of the printed specimens. Micro-CT complemented the Archimedes method by providing detailed information on the morphology and spatial distribution of internal defects. The combined characterization demonstrated a strong correlation between porosity and impact performance, highlighting the importance of process optimization for the development of reliable FFF-manufactured polymer composites intended for military applications. |
