For more than a decade, we have collaborated with Professor John H. Perepezko, combining rigorous experiments with CALPHAD simulations to advance alloy design. In 2013, his differential thermal analysis of stable and metastable equilibria in the Pb-Cd system provided benchmark data for a reliable thermodynamic assessment. In 2016, his directional solidification studies of Mo-Nb-Si-B refractory alloys revealed a eutectic Bcc/T1/T2 microstructure, while our simulations clarified elemental partitioning beyond the resolution of microscopy. More recently (2022-2025), building on his extensive expertise in Mo-Si-B-based alloys, Professor Perepezko identified a promising Bcc + T2 target microstructure for reduced-density, Ti-containing Mo-Si-B alloys. CALPHAD simulations narrowed the composition space, and his laboratory synthesized and characterized the selected alloys, experimentally validating the design strategy. This presentation demonstrates how the synergy between experiment and CALPHAD accelerates modern alloy development. |
