Abstract Scope |
Alnico permanent magnets have recently attracted renewed attention as promising rare-earth-free alternatives due to their potential for enhanced magnetic performance. Their magnetic properties are primarily developed through heat treatment near 830°C, where spinodal decomposition transforms a single-phase α structure into a ferromagnetic α₁ phase and a paramagnetic α₂ phase. The resulting volume fraction, size, and morphology of these phases significantly influence the magnetic behavior of Alnico. In this study, by leveraging the miscibility gap and systematically varying the heat treatment conditions, the size and shape of the α₁ and α₂ phases are tailored, that led to superior hard magnetic properties and further nano scale microstructure is correlated with magnetic properties. The findings of this study thus present a simplified pathway for designing isotropic Alnico magnets through a simple single heat treatment process. |
