| Abstract Scope |
The DC slab casting process of aluminium is complex and requires different parts that make up the mold and the systems for conveying and distributing liquid aluminium. Each part must provide a specific service with desired high-standard performances. To verify the quality of each part, it is important to know the most important parameters of the entire process. In this work, a 3D multi-physical mathematical model was developed to investigate the hydrodynamic performance of the liquid aluminum distributor during casting. The developed model considers the most important phenomena of flow, heat transfer and phase change during solidification. Particular attention is given in this study to the distributor that ensures appropriate circulation of the aluminum flow and allows for better casting quality. The distributor allows for flow control to minimize turbulence and ensure good temperature distribution in the sump. Different types of distributors could be tested to determine their performance. |
