Abstract Scope |
Environmental barrier coatings (EBCs) are needed to protect SiCf/SiC ceramics from degradation advanced modern gas turbines. Ytterbium disilicate, in recent studies, has been considered as a promising EBC candidate. In the current report, insights gained through fundamental research on process-stoichiometry-phase-structure-property linkages of Yb2Si2O7 agglomerated feedstocks is focused with varied manufacturing parameters for atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). The evolution of different EBC chemistries along with deliberate variations in process conditions to provide a framework for fundamental description of the deposition process and post-spray thermal treatments. Together with discussion on coating performance with combined steam and CMAS exposures. |
